More Than 12,000 Free Meters For Customers Underway In Plateau State

By Luka Retle Kumbet

Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) Plc has announced its plans to install 12,000 free meters for customers in Plateau state, North Central Nigeria.

Managing Director of JED, Abdul Mohammed, who disclosed this at the launch of the company’s investor financing metering and point of sale (POS) terminals said, the meters will be installed in Rantya community in Jos South Local Government Area of the State.

Mohammed said, all the company’s clients would now be billed accurately adding that the estimated billing would cease as a result of this action.

“Metering is the most reliable method of energy measurement, which is why we have procured over 12,000 prepaid meters to be installed for customers

“The single-phase meter costs over N80,000, while the three-phase meter costs over N140,000. However, we are giving these meters to you for free. I ask that you take ownership of these meters and report any faults to JED officially. Do not allow third-party electricians to tamper with the meters.

“To combat electricity theft and vandalism, we have engaged the services of the Special Investigation and Prosecution Taskforce on Electricity Offences (SIPTEO), established by the federal government to investigate and prosecute offenders, as well as send electricity thieves and vandals to jail,” he said.
