Naira Notes: EFCC Warns Bureau De Change Operators Against Currency Hoarders

Following the revelations by the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele that the Apex Bank will from December 15th 2022 issue redesigned N200, N500, and N1000 notes, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, has warned Bureau De Change (BDC) operators to be wary of currency hoarders who would be off-loading money illigally stashed.

In a statement, the EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Baw commended the move by the CBN, saying “it is well conceived and timely response” to the challenges of currency management in the country.

“It is pertinent to issue this stern warning to Bureau De Change Operators to be wary of currency hoarders who would attempt to use this opportunity to off-load the currencies they had illigally stashed away,” he said.

The EFCC Boss said the commission would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any financial services operator who violates extant laws and regulations.
