NGE Holds National Convention In Enugu, Nuhu Ribadu To Speak On Security

Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) will hold its Biennial National Convention in Enugu South East Nigeria from June 26 to 29, 2025.

Nigerian Kicker reports that over 400 Editors from Print, Electronics and Online media across the country are expected to attend.

The convention has the theme: “Building a Secure and Cohesive Nigeria: The Role of Dialogue, Inclusion and the Media.”

Leading the convention on the Coal City are some of Nigeria’s most respected media figures, including Prince Sam Amuka-Pemu, Publisher of Vanguard; Chief Segun Osoba, former governor and veteran Journalist; Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, former presidential spokesman; Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of THISDAY/Arise News; and Dr. John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Television.

According to a statement jointly signed by the Guild’s President,  Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Dr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren, the convention will be formally declared open by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi.

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, will serve as Chief Host, while Dr. Momoh will chair the convention.

Prince Amuka-Pemu, Chief Osoba, and Chief Ugochukwu will serve as Fathers of the Day.

Key speakers include the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, who will deliver the address titled: “Nation’s Security Future: Harnessing Diversity for Peace, Stability and the Media’s Role.”

National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, is expected as Special Guest.

The NGE noted that the convention’s theme underscores the critical role of the media in promoting unity, inclusion, and national security. It described diversity as a strength and called for inclusive governance that reflects the voices of all segments of society.

“The media has a responsibility to promote diversity, tolerance, and understanding by highlighting a wide range of perspectives, countering hate speech and misinformation, and fostering dialogue among Nigeria’s many groups,” the Guild stated.

The three-day gathering will also feature the election of new executives to lead the professional body for the next two years.
