Nigerian Conjoined Twins Flown To Saudi Arabia For Surgical Separation

Report from Kano, North-West Nigeria says, Nigerian conjoined Twins have been flown to Saudi Arabia for surgical separation in an operation that will take place at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia Plane – Saudi Medevac No. HZ-MS4C, which flew the conjoined Twins with their parents to Saudi, took off from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano at exactly 2:25 p.m on Monday.

Our Correspondent reports that the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, along with the State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo and other members of the State Executive Council, were at the Airport to bid farewell to the conjoined Twins and their parents.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the Government of Saudi Arabia for the huge humanitarian services to mankind with Nigeria benefiting from the service.

The 33-year-old mother of the conjoined twins, Suwaiba Basiru, who spoke to Journalists at the Airport said, she gave birth to the Triplets (all girls) 2 years ago, explaining that one of the three girls was separated naturally at birth while the other two were conjoined.

The names of the conjoined Twins are Hassana and Husaina while the separated one at birth is Hauwa’u.

The mother of the conjoined twins also told Journalists that they are from Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

She expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for helping her family since she gave birth to the Twins adding that it was the 8th delivery that she gave birth to the conjoined twins.

Full of emotions, Suwaiba described the conjoined Twins as a test from Allah saying she give glory to Him, pointing out that, the same Allah will see to the success of the surgical separation of the twins.

She prayed for all those who have contributed in one way or the other to the success of taking them to Saudi Arabia.

Suwaiba thanked Saudi Arabia Government for the gesture in taking full responsibility for all the expenses involved.

She prayed Allah to continue to uplift the Government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia Press Attache at the Saudi Embassy in Abuja, who was also at the Airport, Mohammed Alsahabi, in a statement said, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the directive of Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, explained that King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre is the facilitator of the complex surgical separation for the Nigerian conjoined Twins.

He said the Twins, Hassana and Husaina are joined at the chest and share vital organs, making their separation a medical intricate and challenging procedure.

Alsahabi noted that the story of the conjoined twins has captured the hearts of millions worldwide and drawing attention to the urgent need for specialized medical attention.

“The conjoined twins will undergo thorough medical evaluation, and a team of experts, including Pediatric Surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses, have been assembled to oversee the entire process.

“The twins’ family will be accommodated in Riyadh, and a support system will be in place to provide comfort and assistance through out the journey,” he said.

The Press Attache said the initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to humanitarian causes and its dedication to helping those in need, regardless of their nationality and background.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been at the forefront of providing international humanitarian aid, and is internationally recognized as one of the key countries responding to humanitarian crises.

“Over the years, the Kingdom’s leaders have followed all international accepted principles of neutrality, and universality in their provision of humanitarian assistance,” he said.

King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre was established in 2015, and to date has delivered aid and relief to 94 countries through more than 2,500 projects.

The unique Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme, since inception in 1990 has reviewed 133 sets of conjoined Twins referred from 24 countries and 59 sets of Twins have been successfully separated by the Saudi Programme.
