Nigerian Editors At A Crossroad – NGE President

President of Nigerian Guild of Editors, Eze Anaba says, media industry in the country need urgent government’s intervention for their survival.

Anaba stated this, on Thursday, at the opening ceremony of the Guild’s 2024 3-day annual conference held at DSP Alamieyesigha Memorial Banquet Hall, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, South-South Nigeria.

The NGE President, who told the audience that, the focus of the conference was “Growth of Economy and sustainability of media industry” said Editors stand at a crossroad.

According to him, there was great economic challenges affecting the media industry which now make them devise various ways to survive.

“Though Section 22 of the Nigerian Constitution challenges the media to hold government accountable, it beholds on the media to also look how they could contribute to economic growth of the country,” he said.

Yet, he maintained that there was no availability of resource materials for the improvement of the media to perform effectively.

Anaba, thanked the Governor of Bayelsa state for hosting the Guild’s conference adding that it was an opportunity for the Editors to discuss ways of addressing the challenges.
