Ophthalmological society of Nigeria, has inducted a total number of 48 members with a charge for them to become good Ambassadors of the Society.
Our Correspondent reports that the induction ceremony was carried out during the Society’s Annual General Meeting and 49th Scientific Conference held on Wednesday in Kano, North West Nigeria.
Addressing the Conference, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Labaran Yusuf, expressed delight over the choice of Kano for the Conference.
He promised that Kano State government will always assist the Society and called on the new inductees – eye consultants to always have their patients at heart to prevent harm.
Nassarawa State Deputy Governor, who is also a consultant ophthalmology, commended the local organising committee for a job weldone.
He, however, called for more interventions in the areas of training and equipping the Hospitals and advised those sandled with the responsibility of using the facilities to make good use of them.
He announced a donation of N20 million to the society on behalf of the Nassarawa state Government.
Presenting a paper, Dr Azmat Shah, who is the Director, Albasa Global Integration Foundation – an eye NGO Nationwide, said they use vision to create awareness for avoidable blindness and as well provide eye service to the community.

Shah, who said they have 36 Specialists noted that they also collaborate with the Central Bank of Nigeria and that they have provided 2 million glasses for patients free of charge.
He also disclosed that the Foundation is training resident Doctors pointing out that it has operated over one million people.
