Osinbajo, Mustapha And Gambari Will Be In-charge In My Absence – Buhari

By Adebayo Michael

President Muhammadu Buhari says his absence would not affect the running of government as Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will take charge, to be assisted by the secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha as well as the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.

The President stated this on Sunday while answering questions from State House correspondents before departing the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Internatinal Airport, Abuja for London.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the President had initially planned to embark on the London trip from Nairobi, Kenya, after attending the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) at 50 in that country on Friday.

“The government is fully represented – the Vice-President is there, constitutionally when I’m away, he’s in charge, and the Secretary to the government and then the Chief of staff. So, no problem,” he said.

It will be recalled that Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, had on March 1, in a statement, said that from Kenya, the President would proceed to London for “routine medical checks that will last for a maximum of two weeks.”

Buhari later returned to Abuja on Friday at about 1pm before embarking on the London trip on Sunday.

Nigerian Kicker observes that President Buhari has been going on medical trips to London since he became president of Nigeria. His media handlers have claimed that he has been consulting with his doctors in London even before he became president.
