Leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has appointed Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, a former Governor of Kano State, to its prestigious Board of Trustees (BoT).
The appointment was confirmed in a letter dated May 9, 2025, and signed by the PDP BoT Secretary, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi.
“I wish to inform you that you have been nominated to the Board of Trustees of our great party, in line with Section 32(1)(a-h) of the party’s constitution as amended in 2017,” the letter stated.
“This is also to notify you that your nomination as a Zonal Nominee is in accordance with Section 32(1)(f) of the party’s constitution, which provides that five (5) members—at least two (2) of whom shall be women—from each of the six (6) geo-political zones of Nigeria shall be nominated by the Zonal Caucus and sent to the Board of Trustees.”
The letter further stated that Senator Shekarau’s first tenure as a BoT member is for three years, effective from May 12, 2025, to May 11, 2028, and is renewable for one additional three-year term, in accordance with Section 32(4) of the constitution.
“It is expected that your performance during your tenure as a distinguished BoT member will justify the confidence reposed in you by the leadership of our great party and the Board of Trustees,” the letter added.
Senator Shekarau served as Governor of Kano State from 2003 to 2011 and also represented Kano Central in the Nigerian Senate.
He was appointed Minister of Education by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
