Two suspects are now in Police custody in Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria, for unlawful possession of firearms in Ibeno and Eket areas of the State.
In a statement, obtained by Nigerian Kicker, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, says the two suspects were arrested in separate incidences.
The first suspect is Nehemiah Sunday Udo ‘m’ 65 years old of Ekpene Obo village in Esit Eket Local Government area following a tip-off.
Items recovered from him are a double -barrel long gun, a cartridge, a torchlight and a traveller’s bag containing clothes.
The statement said during interrogation, the suspect claimed to be a member of the Professional Hunters Association of Nigeria.
Investigations are ongoing to ascertain his true identity and mission in the area.
The other suspect is Sylvanus Ekan ‘m’ who was arrested during a stop-and-search operation along Ikot Udoma Road, Eket. “Item recovered from him is a locally made pistol. He is also in custody for further investigation.”
The Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Baba Mohammed Azare, urged the public in the state to collaborate with the Police in ensuring the safety of all residents in the state.
