A non-governmental organization, Women Rights Initiative has joined sympathisers and other well- meaning Nigerians seeking justice for the parents of the slained 5-year old Hannifa Abubakar by her teacher-kidnapper.
In a statement made available to journalists, Saturday, the organization called on the Police to prosecute those are culpable of the crime describing it as the most barbaric incident in recent time.
“The innocent girl gruesomely murdered by her teacher deserves justice. Her parents and other members of her family have been put in an unexpected state of mourning,” the statement said.
It noted that the Women Rights Initiative has observed “the increase cases of killings for money and ritual purposes” has assumed a frightening dimension and making life unsafe for the citizens.
“Kidnappings, killings, sexual and gender based violence are particularly taking severe toll on women and girls by evil perpetrators,” the statement added.
“As mothers, sisters, and daughters, we are ever with pains that this is no longer the country we grew up to know where the care for the younger ones was the primary responsibility of all adults and the community as a whole,” it said.
The statement recalled that the case of Aisha Umar, an IDP, who was lured and raped by a humanitarian provider that led the victim to commit suicide in Maiduguri, Borno state, is still fresh in the memory.
