Qatar Announces Israel-Hamas Ceasefire To Begin Next Sunday

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, has officially announced on Wednesday a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza.

Saudi Gazette reports that, in a Press Conference, Sheikh Mohammed stated, “Qatar, Egypt, and the United States are pleased to announce the conclusion of an agreement regarding Gaza. The implementation of the agreement will commence next Sunday.”

He explained that under the terms of the agreement, Hamas will release 33 hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian detainees.

“With the consent of both negotiating parties, efforts are ongoing tonight to finalize the execution mechanisms of the agreement,” he added.

Sheikh Mohammed expressed gratitude to Qatar’s partners, Egypt and the United States, for their pivotal role in advancing the negotiations.

“We are working with Hamas and Israel on the steps necessary to implement the ceasefire agreement,” he emphasized.

He further noted that Qatar, Egypt, and the United States will oversee the agreement’s implementation, highlighting that the details of the second and third phases will be disclosed following the completion of the initial phase.

“The agreement aims to bring peace, and the responsibility now lies with both parties to adhere to its terms,” he remarked, underscoring the importance of compliance by all sides.

Sheikh Mohammed revealed that teams from Qatar, Egypt, and the United States will monitor the execution of the ceasefire, ensuring adherence and addressing any potential violations.

He also outlined the establishment of mechanisms to track the agreement’s progress and resolve any breaches that may occur. — SG
