Nigeria’s Senate has paid tribute to the late Philanthropist and Business icon, Dr Bature Abdulaziz.
Our Correspondent reports that the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, led the 10th Senate in a solemn tribute on Thursday at plenary session.
Senator Barau moved a motion to honor the extraordinary life of the late Dr. Bature Abdulaziz, a titan of industry and philanthropy who passed away two weeks ago.
Highlighting the Kano-born patriot’s journey from Adakawa Quarters in Kano to becoming a national icon, Senator Barau emphasized that Abdulaziz unwavering advocacy for indigenous traders and his role in developing major markets across Northern Nigeria serve as a blueprint for national service.
“He was a fearless advocate for local traders and a visionary who empowered thousands through his enterprises,” Barau noted.
He urged Nigerians to emulate “a man who balanced immense commercial success with a tireless commitment to peace and justice.”
Responding to the motion, Senate President Godswill Akpabio led the chamber in a minute of silence, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the government of Kano State.
The Senate reflected on Dr. Abdulaziz decorated career—marked by over 150 awards, including the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) and his service as a United Nations Ambassador of Peace.
As the founder of the Patriotic Elders Network for Peace and Justice and a former chairman of several key trade unions, his legacy was cemented as one that transcended business, fostering national unity and economic stability.
The session concluded with prayers for his eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, recognizing him as a truly irreplaceable pillar of the Nigeria’s private sector.
