Shinkafi Cautions Against Posting NYSC Members To Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto

Former chairman of the Committee on Prosecution of Bandits Related Offences In Zamfara State, Sani Shinkafi, has advised the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, against sending corps members to some States in the northern part of the country.

He cautioned the scheme against sending corps members to States bedevilled by bandit attacks listing States such as Zamfara, Kebbi and Sokoto in North West Nigeria.

The warning is coming weeks after armed bandits kidnapped about eight members of the National Youth Service Corps along a highway in Zamfara State.

Shinkafi was on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, monitored by Daily Post, when he made the call.

“I’m calling on the leadership of NYSC to stop posting youth corps members to Sokoto, Kebbi, and even Zamfara,” he said.

Speaking further, he lampooned the Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, for allegedly refusing to engage in a “peace dialogue” with repentant bandits.

According to him, the stance taken by the former Governor of the State, Bello Matawalle, to dialogue with terrorists was beneficial.

“If this type of situation happens, we use to reach out to these repented bandits and they would work with security agencies to either rescue them or collect them from their captors without paying any ransom.

“But this administration, I am telling you, many people were killed, many people were kidnapped. More than 2,000 people were killed and kidnapped. No place in the 14 local governments of Zamfara is safe,” he added. – DP
