Sit-At-Home: Gunmen Paralyse Economic Activities In Imo State

Report from Imo State, South East Nigeria says, suspected factional members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, enforcing a sit-at-home order, on Friday, burnt down two buses at Eke Obolo in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the State.

Also, men on a Sienna car reportedly blocked Onitsha road, around Irete Market axis, precisely around 8 pm on Friday when traders were retiring home and shot sporadically for hours , causing tension in the entire community.

As a result, everyone around the vicinity, including residents, scampered for their lives to avoid being hit by stray bullets.

Eye witness, who pleaded anonymity, told Daily Post that she was preparing to go home when four men, “armed to the teeth,” alighted from a vehicle and started shooting sporadically.

According to her, the operation, which lasted for over one hour, caused a long gridlock on the road.

“Till the operation ended, no security operative was seen. We left our wares while running for our lives.

“Though no person was shot, it was terrifying; I sustained a fracture on my leg”, she added.

When contacted, Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer, Imo State Police Command said, “The Command is on top of the situation.

“Adequate security measures have been emplaced to arrest the perpetrators of this dastardly act and bring them to justice

“I want to use this medium to admonish the various stakeholders of Imo State to warn their subjects as Imo Police Command will not hesitate to deal ruthlessly with any subversive criminal syndicate or individual caught enforcing the unlawful sit-at-home order.

“Members of the public are advised to go about their lawful business without any form of fear or intimidation and at the same time remain vigilant and swiftly report any criminally-minded elements seen enforcing the unlawful sit-at-home order,” he said. – DP
