South-South Students Celebrate Cultural Day In Jos Plateau State

Federation of South South Students Association, (FOSSSA) of the University of Jos, Plateau State, North Central Nigeria, has celebrated its cultural day.

The FOSSSA comprises students from Edo, Delta, Cross rivers, Bayesa, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom States.

Our Correspondent reports that, during the occasion, the students showcased their traditional foods, mode of dressings, musical instruments, dance, hospitality and respect for elders.

Men and women of substance, dynamic youths, scholars, lecturers, students, and members of the business community reportedly witnessed the cultural day held on Thursday 18th April, 2024 at the University of Jos premises.

Edo State emerged the winners of the Queen and King pageantry.

Addressing the gathering, the President of FOSSSA, Joseph Odey Ebangne said, the reason for the cultural day in the university’s campus was to showcase the south south culture to the students and the institution’s community.

On his part, Chairman of the occasion,  George Gbadamosi said “our culture will not die. The cultural day is a way of uniting the students and country at large.”

He expressed happiness over what he called “the initiative of the students for showcasing our culture to the universe.”

Meanwhile, the Federation of South South Students Association, University of Jos, FOSSSA, gave the following categories of Awards:

1. Award of Recognition
Presented to Clement Obogo
as Icon of Hospitality.

2. Award of Recognition
Presented to Dr. Mathias Eneji
as Student Advocate.

3. Award of Recognition
Presented to Barrister Sunday Odey
as Student Advocate.

4. Award of Recognition
Presented to Mr. Gabriel Oko
as Community Mobiliser.

5. Award of Recognition
Presented to Mrs Maureen Aduba
as supporter of student diversity and inclusion.

6. Award of Recognition
Presented to Comrade Unabor Osaze Elisha
as a bridge builder among students.

7. Award of Recognition
Presented to Miss Ogbudu Elizabeth Ogaku
as most active NACRISS president of the year.

8. Award of Recognition
Presented to Alfred Alabo (PPRO)
as Exemplary Officer.

9. Excellence award presented to Dr. Ability Essien as the most supportive stakeholder of NAAKISS

10. Excellence award presented to Joy George as the most active member of NAAKISS.

11. Excellence award presented to Ejim Egba Clement as most student union activist.

12. Excellence award presented to Sen Joseph Odey Ebangne as most proactive president.

13. Award of recognition presented to Miss Eyogwe Sarah Ogenaohagbe as most active Vice- President.

14. Award of recognition presented to Miss Okpoloa Moses Esther as EXCO of the year.

15. Award of recognition presented to Mrs. Isabella Apeh as Student Advocate.
