Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has urged Nigerian Media to sustain their professional and democratic principles in the discharge of their duties.
The President, who was addressing Nigerian Editors, on Thursday, at the opening ceremony of their annual conference in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state said, he salute their standing legacy of deeply committed contributions to the country’s development.
“The democracy we are enjoying today would not have been possible without the media,” he noted.
President Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, maintained that, in a thriving democracy, the role of Government and the media is collective towards serving public interest.

“The media has it as a duty to hold elected and public officials to account.
” We are doing our work in a manner that strengthen democracy.
“The important work must be done with mutual respect and collaboration in order to achieve common goal that will benefit society,” he said.
According to him, the government and the media should work together for the advancement of democracy where transparency and accountability thrive.

Tinubu noted that, Nigeria is a richly endowned society with human and material resources that will pair the country with world most prosperous nations.
“The question is how do we translate these resources into meaningful goal and development?, he asked.
He said his administration has, since coming to power, spent months on “compelling issues of our great country” adding that it was what the new hope agenda “is all about.”
The President said, there are major obstacles standing on the way but was spending time and energy focussing towards tackling the challenges.
