Vice Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, Professor Bashir Garba
says the University’s Department of Mass Communication was now on a strong footing to begin the expanded Degrees in Advertising, Public Relations, Development Communication, Broadcast Journalism, Information and Media Studies as well as Post Graduate Programmes.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed this, when Lecturers of the Department of Mass Communication, paid him a courtesy visits in his office.
Professor Garba told the Lecturers that the Mass Communication Department, UDUS, was set to get new ultramodern building as a befitting edifice.
According to him, the “Department of Mass Communication is an integral part of the University because of its great importance and global impact” adding that the University will be embarking on construction of sixty major projects and Mass Communication is highly rated to benefit from these constructions.
“I have interest in seeing the growth and development of the Department to a full fledged faculty in the nearest future,” he added.
Head of Department, Mass Communication, Dr. Abubakar Mijinyawa says, the visit was historic as it coincided with the graduation of the first set of students from the department.
Dr Mijinyawa added that the department was making steady progress especially with the employment of new lecturers among which are PhD holders, visiting and Adjunct Professors which he said has put the Department on a strong footing to begin the expanded Degrees in Advertising, Public Relations, Development Communication, Broadcast Journalism, Information and Media Studies and Post Graduate programmes.
He commended the Vice Chancellor for his initiatives towards further improving the University and wished him a fruitful tenure.
It will be recalled that the new Vice Chancellor resumed office on the 1st of August, 2024.
