Veteran Journalist, Abdullahi Yakubu Dies

Bureau Chief of LEADERSHIP Newspaper in Kano, Abdullahi Yakubu has died.

He reportedly died on Friday in Kano after a protracted illness at the age of 55.

Late Yakubu, whose death has sent shock waves among practising and retired media practitioners in Kano, was a former staff of Trump Newspapers.

In a statement on Saturday, Chairman, Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Aminu Garko, expressed deep grief over the death of its member, Abdullahi Yakubu.

The statement described late Yakubu as a season journalist and a gentleman who died at a time when his service to humanity was needed most.

“With total submission to the will of Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala, Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists announced the demise of Abdullahi Yakubu of the Leadership newspapers.

“He was Chairman, Jigawa state chapter of Correspondents’ Chapel when he worked in Dutse as the state correspondent of THISDAY Newspapers before he joined LEADERSHIP newspapers, and deployed to Kano.

“His positive contribution to journalism would remain indelible in the heart of those who cross his part.

” Late Abdullahi Yakubu, a devout Muslim is survived by a wife and many children.

” We pray Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Janatul Furdausi, Amin,” the statement reads.
