Secretary-General, Jamaatul Nasril Islam, JNI, Professor Khalid Aliyu Abubakar says, begging is not part of Islam.
Abubakar, who is the Chief Imam, Fiber Jumaat Mosque, Jos, Plateau State, North Central Nigeria, described those attaching begging to Islam as liars.
Our Correspondent reports that the Imam stated this on Friday, in Jos, while delivering sermon.
“They are liars to Islam!; they are liars to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and they are liars to the society!,” he stated this by raising his voice before the congregation in condemnation of the act of begging and those who associate Islam with it.
“Is it only Nigerians that practises Islam?
“In Saudi Arabia, the cradle of Islam and other climes, where Islam is deeply rooted such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Muslims don’t constitute themselves beggars there.
“Who says that until you beg before you read the Quran? Who came up with this lie?,” he asked.
“Nothing join reading the Quran with begging. Therefore, remove poverty from Islam by going out to do something with your hands that can earn you a means of livelihood,” he advised.

The Islamic scholar said Allah did not create people to make them suffer adding that most of the sufferings and poverty are Self-induced because of laziness and lack of interest in helping oneself.
He advised believers to shun the habit of circumambulating about town in the name of begging adding that there are various endeavors that one can engage in for survival instead of begging.
“Wake up and do something and do away with begging,” he admonished the worshipers.
The Imam said, during his life time, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to pray to Allah to prevent him from poverty and he never encouraged begging.
He prayed Allah to intervene in the current economic situation in the country and make the leaders do justice in governance.
