YOCSAD Condemns Destruction Of Property At FGC Kiyawa, Jigawa State

A Youth and Civil Society Advocacy for Development (YOCSAD), has condemned what it called the recent “egregious acts of vandalism and destruction of property” perpetrated by some students of Federal Government College Kiyawa, Jigawa State, North West Nigeria.

In a statement signed by Jigawa state Coordinator, Abdulrashid Ali Zareku on behalf of the National President, Aminu Aminu, the organization says, “the students, in a misguided response to a dispute with the school management over food and cooking utensils, resorted to destroying constructed facilities, including hostels, a renovated female hostel, male hostel, and a kitchen, worth N129 million.”

It noted that the facilities were generously provided by a Philanthropist, Ambassador Dr. Halima Suleiman Zakari through her foundation, NANA Halima lnitiative.

“Such actions are not only unacceptable but also detrimental to the educational environment and the future
prospects of the students themselves.

“The destruction of these facilities undermines the goodwill and
efforts of philanthropists like Ambassador Dr. Halima Suleiman Zakari, who have invested in the development of the school to improve the leaming conditions for the students,” it said.

YOCSAD, therefore, call on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough
investigation into the incident and take immediate action against those found responsible for the vandalism and destruction of the school property.

“We  appeal to the school administration and the Philanthropist to work together to restore the damaged facilities to enable the students continue their education in a
conducive environment.

“We  also urge the school administration to engages in dialogue with the students to address any grievances and work towards a resolution that does not involve violence
or destruction of property.

“We call on Amb. Dr Halima Suleiman Zakari and others not to be discourage by the act but rather be strengthened.

“We appeal to all stakeholders, including parents, guardians, and the broader community, to condemn this act of vandalism and support efforts to promote a culture of respect for educational institutions and their facilities.

“We also urge the students to focus on their education and seek peaceful and constructive was of resolving conflicts.”
