A thirty bed postnatal ward constructed by Zhahir Foundation at the premises of the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital has been handed over to the management of the hospital.
The children of the donor, Alhaji Yusuf Dayyabu and and Zanna Uban Doma Damaturu said the ward is named “Tsohon Gabas New Postnatal Ward” and donated in memory of their late father.
The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Prof. Abdurrahaman Abba Sheshe, commended the Zhahir Foundation for the gesture.
He said the new ward will complement the existing one by ensuring globally accepted practices in discharging women who gave birth.
The Chief Medical Director explained that the ideal thing is that a woman who gave birth is supposed to be retained in the hospital for 24-hours until ruled out for any unforseen problem.
He said due to lack of bed space in the hospital some women were being discharged right from labour ward to accommodate other patients.
The Chairman Medical Advisory of the hospital, Professor Auwalu Umar Gajida, said the new ward consist of six Consultant rooms, Nurses common room, six amenity rooms, a Pantry and six cubicles of four bed space each among others.
