The Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON, is set to establish a regulatory body for the practice of broadcasting in Nigeria to be known as The Society of Nigerian Broadcasters.

A release issued by the Executive Secretary of BON, Dr. Yemisi Bambose directs the Heads of broadcasting organisations in the country to sensitise their staff towards the formation of the society in their various stations across the country preparatory to the inauguration of the society at the national level soon.
The release noted that the intention to form the society was unanimously endorsed at the 75th General Assembly of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON, held on the 7th of October, 2021 in Kano.
Among the functions of the society are to coordinate, set standards, admits and develop thorough training on the practice of broadcasting in Nigeria.
The society will also issue certificate of practice and oversee professional discipline.
Membership shall include current and former staff in programme, news and engineering departments of broadcast media with a minimum of a Diploma Certificate and 5 years working experience in Broadcasting or Lecturing.
Membership categories are student membership, Associate membership and full membership.
The release further hinted that the registration form and membership subscription will be made known soon.
