Economic Community of West Africa States has suspended Burkina Faso from its governing bodies following the coup d’etat carried out last Sunday which overthrown the democratically elected government of President Roch Kabore.
ECOWAS Heads of State and Government made the decision on Friday at the end of its virtual summit on the situation in that country.
This is contained in a communique issued at the end of the virtual summit made available to journalists.
ECOWAS Leaders, who condemned the coup frowned at the resurgence of coup d’etats in member countries saying that ECOWAS will no longer tolerate ascending to power through unconstitutional means.
The communique also said, “the leadership demands quick restoration of constitutional order by the militaries and the immediate release and protection of President Roch Marc Christian Kabore and all the other political detainees.”
