Governor Yusuf Flags Off 2023 Tree Planting Campaign In Kano

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, has flagged off 2023 Tree planting campaign in Kano, North West, Nigeria.

Our Correspondent reports that the flag off ceremony took place at the Kofa Mata Central Prayer ground in Kano metropolis.

Addressing the audience, Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi said tree planting campaign has become an annual event in the state.

“The 2023 tree planting campaign will last for two weeks.

“We will distribute seedlings covering Kano metropolis and Local Government Areas of the state.

“This is with a view to fighting the menace of climate change,” he said.

The Governor said his administration is giving priority to environmental development including effort to provide control of gully erosion in some of the Local Governments.

He, therefore, called on the public to help preserve and manage the trees that will be planted during the period of the campaign.

The Governor warned that anyone found going against the policy will not be tolerated.

Earlier, the State Commissioner, Ministry of Environment, Nasiru Sule Garo, extolled the importance of tree in the ecosystem.

“We are planting 28,000 seedlings along major roads while one million seedlings will be distributed across the state,” he said.

Garo, who commended the Press for “their adequate publicity of the policies and programme of the state government”, also called on the people to embrace the tree planting initiative adding that every tree fell by anyone should be replaced by another tree.
