NUC Visits Proposed Aminu Dabo University of Health Sciences, Kano

National Universities Commission, (NUC), Verification Team, has visited the proposed Aminu Dabo University of Health Sciences, Kano, Proaratory for the issuance of license for the establishment of the University.

In a statement, obtained by Nigerian Kicker,  the Head, PR & Publicity of the proposed University, Abdullahi Usman said, the verification team led by Barrister Samuel S. Adejoh, on Friday through Saturday, embarked on a 2-Day visit to the proposed Aminu Dabo University of Health Sciences, Kano as part of the processes and procedures for the establishment of private Universities in Nigeria.

The team, which also has Prof. Angela Miri, Mustapha Rasheed, Umma Giwa-Amu, Suleiman Adebayo and Daniel Sanusi as members, on arrival, began the exercise with a courtesy call on the promoter of the University Arc Aminu Dabo in his office in Kano.

In his remark, Barr Samuel S.Adejoh introduced the members of the team as experienced and highly respected scholars constituted by the Executive Secretary of the Commission to carry out the task and give recommendations for the issuance of licenses to the University to take off.

On his part, the Chairman Planning and Implementation Committee for the proposed University, Prof. A.A Shehu, CON, disclosed that the proposed University was designed to be a specialised institution offering programs in health sciences discipline with the intension to commence academic activities in phases.

The Chairman who spoke through another member, Prof Aliyu Abdu, said, at the initial stage, the University is envisaged to begin with 6 undergraduate programs and 3 faculties including the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Medical Lab Sciences and faculty of Dental Health Sciences.

The Promoter of the proposed University Arc, Aminu Dabo, while welcoming the team said, people’s desire to have such a  University in addition to the existing two health science colleges inspired him to venture into the project.

He expressed optimism that if the request for the establishment of the new University is granted by the NUC, more diploma graduates in the health sector would have the opportunity to access higher education up to the degree level in health and allied related science Programs.

The team, in the company of the Promoter Arc Aminu Dabo and members of the planning and implementation committee, later visited the two designated campuses of the proposed University and inspected facilities including, laboratories, library complex, computer room, lecture rooms and Multi-purpose Hall.

Other areas also inspected by the team were the University Clinic, Students’ Hostels, Staff Offices, source of water supply system and electric power, among others.

While commenting during presentation of a preliminary Report at the exit meeting, the NUC Verification Team expressed their satisfaction with what they physically saw on ground for the takeoff of the proposed Aminu Dabo University of Health Sciences and commended the founder for his commitment to the project.

According to the NUC team leader Barr Samuel Adejoh, the members noted with keen interest that most basic infrastructural facilities and equipment were put in place in line with guidelines for the setting up of the new university.

He assured the people that favourable recommendations will be prepared in earnest for the consideration of the Commission.

“We are delighted to be here. The institution is very promising and the vision for the proposed University is very achievable” Prof Samuel S. Adejoh, leader of NUC Verification Team re-affirmed.

The visit was wrapped up with a special buffet launch hosted at Bristol Hotel Kano, courtesy of the promoter of the proposed University, Arc Aminu Dabo, who is also the founder of the twin colleges of Health Sciences (AD-COHST and AD-CONS) in Kano.
