Report from Rivers State, South-South Nigeria says, an 8-year-old Ms Success Edmond Fombo has served as Chairman of Bonny LGA for one day.
A statement from the office of Media and Communication, Bonny Local Government Council says, in a bid to inspire the next generation of leaders, Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Amasenibo Hon. Engr. Abinye Blessing Pepple, DSSRS temporarily vacated his seat for the 8-year-old, Miss Success Edmond Fombo to assumed office as one-day Chairman of the Local Government.
Miss Fombo, a pupil of Tamvina International School, Bonny, was received by the Council Chairman Abinye Pepple alongside her Child Executive Council cabinet members and teachers of the school.
For a period of 24 hours, Miss Fombo assumed the responsibilities of the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, and convened an emergency Executive Council meeting attended by Supervisors of Council and other senior government officials.
During the session, she received detailed briefings on the activities, responsibilities, and ongoing programs of various departments within the Local Government Council.
Miss Fombo, also addressed members of the Executive Council, engaged government officials on issues affecting children and community development, and undertook an inspection tour of ongoing projects across the Local Government Area.
As part of her recommendations, the One-Day Chairman called for the appointment of a Senior Special Adviser on Child Welfare and Protection Matters and advocated for the establishment of a Child Welfare and Protection Committee (CWPC) in Bonny Local Government Area to strengthen child-focused policies and initiatives.
A major highlight of the event was a community service project carried out by the 2026 Graduating Class of Tamvina International School, Bonny, demonstrating the students’ commitment to community development and responsible citizenship.
