A non-governmental organization, Community Peace Action Network (CPAN) has cautioned Nigerians to verify any information at their disposal before sharing it or publication.
Coordinator of the Network, Mr. Samson Auta who gave the caution at a workshop organized by Inter-Faith Mediation Centre, in conjunction with Mercy Corps and USAID in Lokoja, Kogi State, said most religious crises recorded in Nigeria were largely due to misunderstanding and wrong response to handy information among followers of different religious faithfuls.
“This is the main reason for organizing this kind of inter-faith workshop involving conflict Mitigation and Management Regional Council (CMMRC) and Community Peace Observers (CPOs) within the northern and central parts of Nigeria to enlighten them on how to handle information.
Auta noted that the challenge of the centre is lack of feedback, especially when the response within the communities that helped mitigate conflict are not handled properly.
In her remarks, a facilitator, Hajiya Ramatu Adamu, advised citizens to always investigate any information received before responding to it.
