Nigerian former Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed has been re-appointed Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Accepting her re-appointment, Amina Mohammed who is also the Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group, wrote on Twitter, “I am deeply humbled to serve a second term as UN Deputy Secretary-General.”
“I begin this new term as a proud Nigerian woman with renewed hope in human solidarity and determination to keep the promise of the SDGs. We will leave no one behind,” she said.
Secretary-General of United Nations, Antonio Guterres, who appointed Amina Mohammed, expressed appreciation for the Deputy Secretary-General leadership of the UN Sustainable Development Group and her determination to reinforce collective results and maximize the impact of the UN development’s system on the ground.
Amina Mohammed first joined the United Nations in 2012 as Special Adviser to former Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon with the responsibility for post-2015 development planning.
