Lagos Shuts Down Club, Hotel Over Noise Pollution

Lagos State Government has sealed a nightclub and a hotel for “persistent noise pollution and repeated failure to comply with environmental regulations”, as part of ongoing efforts to enforce environmental laws and protect public health across the state.

The enforcement operation was carried out on Monday, June 29, 2026, by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, on the directive of the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab.

According to the statement by the Agency, Westgate Arena Club, located at Apostolic Church Close, Olowora, was shut down over persistent noise pollution and continued disregard for the Agency’s environmental directives.

During the operation, LASEPA also sealed Dave Premium and Suites, located on Alhaji Irorun Street, off Kazeem Street, Alapere, Ketu, over similar environmental violations linked to persistent noise pollution.

The Agency said the enforcement exercise followed repeated environmental infractions, particularly noise pollution, as well as the failure of both establishments to comply with abatement notices and other regulatory requirements aimed at protecting the environment and the well-being of residents.

Speaking on the exercise, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to protecting public health and ensuring a cleaner, safer, healthier and more sustainable environment across Lagos State.

“Environmental compliance is a collective responsibility. Individuals and corporate organisations must adhere strictly to environmental laws and regulations.

“LASEPA will continue to intensify enforcement actions against violators to curb environmental nuisances and protect residents from the harmful effects of pollution,” he said.

Ajayi also urged residents, business owners and operators of hospitality and entertainment establishments to adopt environmentally responsible practices and cooperate with regulatory authorities in promoting a cleaner, healthier and more livable Lagos.

He stressed that LASEPA remains committed to carrying out its statutory responsibilities and would continue to deploy all lawful measures to ensure full compliance with environmental regulations without compromise.
