NDA Honours First Female Major General

Late Major General Aderonke Kale

Nigerian Army has celebrated its late first female Major General Aderonke Kale.

According to NTA News, monitored in Jos, Plateau State, the ceremony was a “grand lecture, graced by top military officers, esteemed members of the academia, and other dignitaries.

They all gathered to honour the legacy of the first female Major General of the Nigerian Army, late Major General Aderonke Kale and to discuss the vital issues of gender equality within the armed forces.

The discussions was with the Theme ‘Impact of Traditional Roles on Women’s Participation in the Armed Forces: Exploring Gender Stereotypes and Cultural Barriers.’

The lecture addressed the significant challenges women face in the military and the progress made over the years.

Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Major General John Ochai, agrees with Retired Major General Tilewa Amusu, the second female to attain the rank of Major General and to command the Nigerian Army Medical Corps, the need for a Nation to embrace diversity and inclusivity for true development.

He emphasised the importance of recognising and overcoming gender stereotypes and cultural barriers to ensure equal opportunities for all evident on the first female office to graduate from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst united kingdom.

A monument dedicated to the memory of the late Major General Aderonke Kale, as testament to her pioneering achievements and enduring legacy was unveiled.

The First female to attain Major General in the Nigerian Army, late Major General Aderonke Kale died last year.
