The Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos, North Central Nigeria, Prof. Shedrack Gaya Best, has taken the institution’s agriculture drive to Oyo State in search of big dairy deals.
Nigerian Kicker reports that, Prof. Best, alongside the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Assoc. Prof. Hosea Finangwai, was in Oyo on Monday, June 9, to hold talks with industry players.
The goal: new strategic partnerships to expand PLASU’s Faculty of Agriculture and boost practical training for students.
Top of the agenda was a proposed collaboration with Milkin Barn Agro Services Ltd, a fully mechanized dairy farm inside the Fasola Agribusiness Hub, Oyo State, South West Nigeria.
The deal under discussion includes the acquisition of dairy cows for the PLASU Dairy Farm, plus broader technical support for the University’s agricultural programmes.
Milkin Barn specializes in rearing exotic Holstein heifers and crossbreeding local breeds to produce high-yield pedigree dairy cattle.
The firm also runs commercial pasture production, hay making, pasture seed multiplication, and a feed mill that supplies smallholder farmers in the area.
During the facility tour, Engr. Namo, Resident Equipment and Facility Manager, walked the PLASU delegation through the farm’s operations. From milking parlours to feed processing, the VC got a firsthand look at the systems PLASU hopes to replicate back in Bokkos.
Speaking after the tour, the University officials said the partnership, if sealed, would give Agriculture students direct exposure to modern dairy farming while strengthening PLASU’s drive toward self-sufficiency and agribusiness.
The VC’s Oyo trip signals PLASU’s push to move beyond theory and build working farms that feed both students and the local economy.
