Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission is partnering with the University of Jos to raise awareness on sexual and gender-based violence and other social vices affecting students.
Nigerian Kicker reports that, Chairperson of the Commission, Bar. Olivia Dazyam, disclosed this during a visit to the university 09/06/2026.
She noted that “the situation in Higher Institutions is becoming worrisome as more students engage in vices detrimental to their health, wellbeing and future.”
She called for collaboration with the institution to drive sensitization campaigns on the issues.
Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, welcomed the delegation and commended the commission’s efforts. He approved the partnership and expressed optimism for a robust working relationship.
Prof. Ishaya also reiterated the university’s zero-tolerance policy, stating that “sex for marks or any kind of harassment is a no go area” at the institution.
He urged any student who experiences harassment to report immediately.
