Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Plateau State Chapter, has trained more than 100 adolescent girls on proper menstrual hygiene management as part of efforts to improve health practices among young girls in the state.
Our Correspondent reports that, the one-day training, held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Press Centre in Jos, focused on addressing poor menstrual hygiene practices and reducing the risk of infections linked to unhygienic management during menstruation.

Speaking at the event, NAWOJ Plateau State Chairperson, Grace Akwe Gotip, said the initiative was designed to equip adolescent girls with accurate knowledge and practical skills for safe menstrual care.
“Poor menstrual hygiene is a major health challenge for many adolescent girls. This training is to address those gaps and help reduce infections associated with unhygienic menstrual management,” Gotip stated.

Lead facilitator and Programme Manager of the Women and Girl Child Development Initiative, Longreat Laurentiis, urged participants to monitor their menstrual cycles closely and report any unusual changes.
She emphasized that awareness and early attention to irregularities are key to protecting reproductive health.
In a goodwill message, NUJ Plateau State Council Chairman, Ayuku Pwaspo, commended NAWOJ for the programme and assured the association of the council’s continued support for initiatives that advance the welfare of girls and women.
