1st Anniversary: Dr. Suberu Yusuf-John Pledges Commitment To Road Safety In Kogi State

Special Adviser (SA) to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, on Road Safety Matters, Dr. Suberu Yusuf-John, has reaffirmed his commitment to intensifying efforts and implement strategic initiatives aimed at saving more lives on Kogi roads.

Speaking with Journalists in Lokoja, the state capital, on Thursday to mark one year of service, Dr. Yusuf-John reflected on his achievements during his tenure, first as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) and now as Special Adviser to the Governor on Road Safety Matters.

The SA expressed profound gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his unwavering support and confidence, which, he said, enabled him to deliver meaningful results in improving road safety and protecting the lives of motorists, passengers, and other road users across the state.

“The successes recorded during my first year as Senior Special Assistant on Road Safety earned me the confidence of His Excellency, Gov. Ahmed Ododo, who graciously elevated me to the position of Special Adviser (SA) on Road Safety Matters.

“These achievements were made possible through dedication, proactive leadership, and close collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other critical stakeholders committed to making our roads safer.”

Dr. Yusuf-John, explained that between July 2025 and July 2026, he actively participated in emergency response operations at crash scenes alongside FRSC personnel and coordinated extensive road safety awareness campaigns in schools, churches, mosques, motor parks, and communities across Kogi State.

According to him, his administration also initiated several strategic interventions, including a high-level stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House, Lokoja, to address concerns surrounding the ongoing federal road construction project in Zariagi Community and strengthen peaceful relations between the host community and CGC Nigeria Limited.

The Special Adviser added, “Public enlightenment remained one of my key priorities.”

“That’s why we took road safety campaigns to churches, mosques, schools, motor parks, and communities because every life matters. I do not want to see anyone lose his/her life in a preventable road traffic crash.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and together we can make our roads safer.”

He further highlighted the successful hosting of the 2026 Strategic Stakeholders’ Conference on Road Safety, which brought together government agencies, transport unions, development partners, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in promoting road safety in Kogi State.

The SA said participants resolved to deepen institutional partnerships, intensify public enlightenment campaigns, and encourage greater compliance with road traffic laws.

According to him, the conference also witnessed the investiture of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo as Patron of the FRSC Special Marshals, the donation of ten electric motorcycles to the FRSC to enhance operational efficiency, and the presentation of awards to deserving individuals and organisations for their outstanding contributions to road safety.

Dr. Yusuf-John described the visit of the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, to Kogi State as a significant recognition of the Governor’s commitment to road safety and an encouragement for him to continue delivering impactful results.

“The visit of the Corps Marshal, my promotion to Special Adviser, and the support of Gov. Ahmed Ododo have strengthened my resolve to do even more.

“My commitment remains to work tirelessly with all stakeholders to reduce road traffic crashes, save lives, and leave behind a safer road transport system for the people of Kogi State, ” he stated.

Dr. Yusuf-John reaffirmed his determination to build on the achievements of the past year by expanding strategic partnerships, strengthening road safety advocacy, and implementing innovative initiatives that will further enhance road safety across Kogi State.
